From our camping spot we had a 50 km drive to a place called Latrabjarg a top scenic spot in Iceland renowned for its high cliffs and the thousands of sea birds that nest in those cliffs. The drive was another of the now familiar spectacular Iceland roads.
There were fewer birds than we had expected, but never the less the Puffins lived up to their reputation. You see, some of them nest just below the cliff edge (like 1 foot below), so by lying on the ground at the edge one can come nose-to-nose (or is it nose-to-beak) with the little critters. There was a goodly throng of tourists there to observe, many with large (huge !) lenses and multiple cameras. We had a brief conversation with one gentleman who was a photographic guide who organized trips to various photogenic parts of the world.
As always we were captivated by the birds, took way too many photos, and as a result you are getting way too many in todays post. There is simply something about bird photographs that capture Nina and I.
Moving on from the Puffins we made a necessary fuel and supplies stop at Patreksfjordur, where among other things we bought the worlds most expensive beer (US$10 per can). By contrast, and despite the remoteness, the fuel was the same price as in Reykjavik.
There after we continued the in-and-out and the up-and-down with the fjords until we found a nice picnic area at the head of Dyrafjordur
