We came across this unusual way (see photos) of making a country cottage. The recipe seems to be :

  • Buy some land beside a canal
  • Buy a canal boat
  • On you land, close to the canal, dig a hole large enough to hold a canal boat
  • Temporarily connect your hole to the canal
  • Float you boat down the canal into you hole
  • Close your hole off from the canal

You how have a self contained country cottage. Ingenious!

We stopped for the night near the town of Napton on the Hill in the hope of having a drink and a meal at one of the local pubs. The one that was close was out of food, the next one was closed, and the last one was too far away to walk to. Darn!
