A day of contrast. We started out the day on the M6, one of England's main motorways, heading towards Birmingham and finished the day in Snowdonia, Wales in lush forest, with narrow roads bordered by stone walls.
Once out of the heavy traffic of the motorways the drive was picturesque, if a bit challenging. We had hoped to spend the night in the little mountain village of Betws-y-coed but on arrival we discovered that the campground was full. So we retraced our steps a few miles back down the road and found a narrow parking spot beside the road (a spot the locals call a lay-by).
