Today we followed some of the Ross Coastal Trail, a single track road that runs through the coastal moors of the Western Ross region. There were long stretches of what felt like wilderness but in fact the road was quite popular with numbers of sport car and motorcycle enthusiasts out experiencing the exhilarating driving of the narrow road. For us and our yellow truck the travel was slow as the pavement was generally only just wide enough to get all 4 wheels on it at the same time. How I would have loved to have been on a motorcycle, they were zipping along at 2-3 times our speed.
The photo of the Morgan sports car is the only acceptable shot we got of all the drivers/riders that passed us.
We have been asked various questions about the Hebrides by readers so I thought I would record some of the basic facts here:
The Inner Hebrides are a collection of islands off the west coast of Scotland. They are very close to mainland and on most maps look like more like peninsulas. The most well known are Mull, Iona, Skye.
The Outer Hebrides are a string of islands that form a shield off the north western coast of Scotland. They are Barre, Uist, and Lewis. These are even less populated than the Inner Hebrides and their names tend to be less well known.
The New Hebrides is in the Pacific Ocean and is the country now called Vanuatu
