We spent today driving along the road beside Loch Ness. We had been told that the best view of the loch was to be had by driving the road North to South and so thats what we did, from Inverness to Fort Augustus and then back again. However in truth the view was not great in either direction as trees block the view from the road for almost all of the drive.
We did not see Nessie, the Loch Ness monster, except as porcelain souvenirs in the various gift shops.
Port Augustus proved to be interesting as we got to have a look at part of the Caledonian Canal. This canal is much wider than the one we recently traveled on. The locks are much bigger and heavier and require hydraulic equipment to open and close them.
After our northward return journey we traveled a little way east to the town of Nairn and found a nice campground in a pine forest. Turned out to be part of the UK Camping and Caravan Club so we got a good discount.
