Todays destination was the town of Kinsale, but along the way we stopped at Cobh (also perplexingly known as Queenstown) to visit the Titanic Experience. We found Cobh to be a quaint/cute little harbor town, with an amazingly magnificent cathedral overlooking the harbor.
It was a little hard to understand why Cobh had a Titanic attraction as the only connection we could see between the town and the ship was that Cobh was the last port of call before the Titanic ventured into the Atlantic for its crossing to America.
The "experience" took the form of a simulated boarding of the Titanic. We each got our own ticket (but with the name of one of the actual passengers of the day on it ), a steward took us to the 1st and 2nd class waiting area, (3rd class passengers waited in the street) and then showed us to "our" re-created cabin (1st and 3rd class). Finally, the steward showed us into a re-creation of the inside of a life-boat (the modern stewards obviously were more safety aware than the originals). After the tour there was a small exhibition to peruse, including a computer display where we could lookup the fate of the passenger whose name was on our ticket.
Our accommodation in Kinsale was a B&B called the Olde Bakery, run by an older couple, Tom and Chrissie. This would prove to be a friendly and comfortable stop.
