Another couple of those stone forts were on the agenda early in todays travels and then we finished off the Ring of Kerry in bright sunshine, backtracked a little to Killarney and Muckross house so as to see the area in good weather and then started towards the town of Dingle on the Dingle Peninsula.
Dingle is a much smaller town than I had expected. It is such a well known name I expected it to be a sizable town or even small city but in fact it is not much more than a single main street fishing village that is becoming "touristy".
After checkin at our B&B we did a quick run around the nearby scenic loop road (Slea Head Drive) just to make sure we got to see it, even briefly, in case tomorrows weather is not so good. Very picturesque and with lots of other tourists.
One interesting tid bit of information we gleaned during the Slea loop was related to the rectangular fields, fenced with stone walls, high up on the hillsides. These were constructed as potato fields before the 1845 famine and mostly have not been used since. In a few of these fields the old potato planting furrows or rows are still visible.
