As per the title, we were up early (for us), saying goodbye to Alice and then off to the ferry for the return to the mainland, no dramas there, although we were surprised by how many people appeared apparently from nowhere to catch the ferry. Back at the ferry dock in Rossaveel a man miraculously appeared to collect the 5 euros we owed for our days parking and then we were on the road heading towards Westport.
There is not a lot to say about today. Some nice scenery, a rainbow that appears to come down onto a small island, some good examples of peat cutting (something I still find amazing - that you can burn "turf" as they call it) and that stone cross. The cross , unfortunately, is a memorial to victims of the Irish famine but in particular approximately 200 that died along the same road after being refused food by their landlord 1849.
We will spent the next two nights in the town of Westport.
