The Spanish town of Figueres is famous as the location of the Dail Theatre Museum. As the name implies this is an old theater building that was converted (by Dali) into a museum to display various of Dali's works. Visiting this museum and soaking up some Dali atmosphere was our plan for today.
Nina and I have been Dali fans since our earliest days together having plastered the walls of our first apartments with poster reproductions of some of his surreal works. So we were quite excited to finally visit this mecca of Dali art. And we were not disappointed. The place is truly bizarre, decorated with all kinds of strange art ranging from the Cadillac with a bronze women standing on top of it, an entire room that looks like the face of Mae West, a painting that looks like the back of a naked women with the naked eye but the face of Abraham Lincoln when viewed through a camera, to the smallest sketch or painting. The building simply overpowers one with the scope of Dali's imagination and his skill.
There seem to be two aires in Figueres and we chose the one which (from our guide) seemed to be the larger of the two. A gravel parking lot up the hill from the town and just below the the towns old fort Castel de Sant Ferran. This place has no facilities but is very close (1/2 km ) to the museum and other tourist attractions. It seems a very popular place with locals as we saw lots of joggers, walkers and people just hanging out.
