A bit of a change from the usual sightseeing diet today. Today was not old buildings, churches and squares but natural scenic 'wonders'. From Unquera on the A8 we took N621 which quickly turned narrow and twisting as it wound its way through La Hermida Gorge, a really pretty drive - but one that tested my skills as today happens to be 1st May, May-Day and a national holiday in Spain. So, the traffic on this narrow road was thick. However my challenge was dwarfed by that presented to the drives of the 40 foot tourist buses.

Eventually the gorge relented and quite quickly we were entering the little town of Potes. Again the holiday had brought people out in force and the town was packed with the main square given over to a crowded market.

From Potes a well made road led us up to Fuente De, a mountain resort that boasts the longest single span cable in Europe taking passengers up 2600 ft to an altitude of 6000' in 4 minutes. At the top we were supposed to get breath taking views of the Picos de Europa mountain range, but infact we mostly got to see mist.

Did I mention that Fuente De was also packed, with a 1/2 hour wait for cable car tickets and then a further 1 hour wait for ones turn to ride the car.

I guess thats the price for visiting tourists spots during a national holiday.

After our mountain adventure we retraced our steps most of the way back to Unquera, and past the narrow gorge, and found a clearing on the side of the road for our nights camp.
