More nice weather and a change of scenery today. We are now in the grasslands. The change in scenery happened quite quickly as all of a sudden we noticed that we were traveling amidst rolling grass covered hills that stretch as far as the eye can see in every direction.

During the early part of the day we got a bit obsessed with grain silos. We noticed a lot of what appear to be new silos with a newer design and got captivated about photographing them. The newer designs are made of metal, in the shape of a quite broad cylinder with a conical cap. Quite different to the more traditional rectangular style.

Late in the afternoon we dropped in to a museum (The Museum of the Fur Trade) just east of the town of Chandron NB. The museum has a very fine display of all kinds of equipment and artifacts from the era of the fur trade. Interestingly it is located on the site of a 19th century trading posts where furs were traded for manufactured goods with trappers and Indians. The original trading post buildings are still in existence and provided us a fascinating glimpse into the past.

From Chadron we turned north into South Dakota and camped for the night at Angosta Reservoir south of Rapid City.
